Cohiba: Best Seller Of 2007
Historically, Montecristo cigars have been the best-selling brand throughout the world but according to a report by Manuel Garcia, vice president of Habanos S.A. in a press conference, in 2007 Cohiba overtook the aforementioned brand for the number one position. He also added that this corporation has consolidated its position as world leader on the market for premium hand-rolled cigars by achieving sales worth $402 million at the close of 2007 and specified that such results are confirmed in the 8% increase of the world market share.
The corporation's commercial portfolio includes more than 240 kinds under its 34 brands, including Cohiba, Montecristo, Romeo y Julieta, Partagas, Hoyo de Monterrey cigars, Quintero, H. Upmann, Punch, San Cristobal de la Habana, Trinidad, Cuaba, Vegueros and Vegas Robaina. The company has 96 Casas del Habano throughout the world, while for the internal market its own distribution network has been consolidated with 133 Casas which this year, according to predictions, is set to grow with the opening of 37 more establishments of this kind.
Cuba boasts the best conditions to grow the aforementioned crop thanks to the combination of soil, climate and, something very essential, the experience of the growers; conditions that, without doubt, will allow the company to execute the general strategy it has outlined and, according to what Javier Terrez, vice president of business affairs, explained during the festival's closing ceremony, consolidate Habano culture and maintain its leading position on the world hand-rolled cigar market.
In recognition of the important contribution by Habanos S.A: for the completion of the Chapel of Humanity, the Guayasamin Foundation expressed its gratitude by donating a painting by Oswaldo Guayasamin, presented by journalist Pedro Martinez Pirez.
Next year perhaps, the same individuals and other new faces will come together from February 23-27 to exchange their most recent experiences and enjoy the new Habanos that will enter the market in 2009.
Barely one week ago, I was walking through these salons with deputies. Now I am doing so again, and they are enwrapped in aromatic clouds of the Habanos smoked by men and women from 75 countries who attended the 10th Festival precisely to enjoy the finest cigars in the world.
