Cuban cigar supplier Habanos has announced the appointment of former vice-president logistics Walfrido Hernández Mesa (pictured) as co-president as part of a management reorganisation.
Jorge Luis Fernández Maique will assume the role of commercial vice-president.
Born in San Luis, Hernández led a tobacco plantation in his home town before being appointed director of the Tobacco Enterprise in the province of Pinar del Río. He then became director of the Lázaro Peña Tobacco Enterprise in the Parido region before becoming Tabacuba general vice-president.
On his appointment, Hernández vowed to dedicate all his efforts to work in order to maintain the leadership of Habanos in the premium tobacco segment.
