Famous Cuban Tobacco Grower Alejandro Robaina to Be Venerated
Pinar del Rio, Cuba, Oct 30 (Prensa Latina) Friends and admirers will recall famous grower Alejandro Robaina, a legend of Cuban tobacco, at the Cuchilla de Barbacoa plantation, devoted to the cultivation of the aromatic plant since 1845, organizers announced today.
As a tradition every March 20, the date of his birthday, farmers of the area, cigar makers, businessmen, photographers, and journalists join the family celebration in the El Pinar farm, in San Luis municipality.
We want to preserve his legacy and revive the memory of Don Alejandro, a peasant who traveled the world as an ambassador of Habanos cigars, his grandson Hiroshi Robaina, current administrator of the old property, told Prensa Latina.
We repeat every year this meeting between producers and other cigar lovers of the world, occasion in which we show my grandfather' photos, videos, and other relics.
The house museum in Cuchillas de Barbacoa houses old documents, personal snapshots and objects of the grower, who died in 2010 at the age of 91.
