Pirates add to Pittsburgh Baseball Club Level offering with opening of Montecristo Club

The Pittsburgh Pirates today unveiled the Region's newest sophisticated social destination, The Montecristo Club. The Montecristo Club, which is located on the Pittsburgh Baseball Club Level (PBC) at PNC Park, is an exclusive members-only experience that delivers Pirates baseball, the finest adult beverages, premium cigars and live jazz and blues musical performances.

The Montecristo Club and its feature martini and cigar bars were created to bring a new level of style, sophistication and fun to Pirates baseball at PNC Park. The effort to improve the fan experience is consistent with the Pirates new organizational mission to strive for excellence in all aspects of the organization, according to Tim Schuldt, Pirates Vice President of Marketing, Sales and Broadcasting.

"Last month we publicly unveiled our new mission statement of WE WILL strive for excellence in every aspect of the organization to become the benchmark in the sports and entertainment industry. This is a great example of that," said Schuldt. "We feel the Montecristo Club will provide an experience unlike anywhere else in Major League Baseball or the Pittsburgh region."

To help make the idea a reality, the Pirates partnered with Altadis USA, maker of the premium Montecristo cigar brand, and Southern Wine & Spirits, distributor of the world's finest distilled spirits, wine, beer and non-alcoholic beverages. Each company's official partnership with the Pirates includes a commitment to the Montecristo Club.

Exclusive access is offered to the Montecristo Club's 200 members each night during the Pirates 81-game home schedule. Membership is included with the price of the game ticket and could range from a season-long membership to a single game.

The idea for the Montecristo Club, which occupies sections 207 and 208 of the 18-section PBC Level, was born from consumer demand after the Pirates held a half-dozen cigar nights during the 2005 season. The successful events allowed fans to enjoy their cigars on the Southwest Flight Deck area of PNC Park.

"The Montecristo Club appeals to a specific portion of our fan base that is looking for a more sophisticated experience before, during and after the game," said Schuldt. "The Montecristo Club is one of many things being done this season to enhance the fan experience at PNC Park, The Best Ballpark in America."

In order to ensure the proper atmosphere in and around the new Montecristo Club, the Pirates installed a custom-built, state-of-the-art ventilation system that will properly eliminate smoke from inside the Montecristo Club, while not allowing it to drift to nearby areas of the ballpark.

The Montecristo Club also features private cigar lockers available to the first 100 full-season members, while the first 50 full-season "charter members" will also receive a personalized box of Montecristo brand cigars.
